Hothouses & Looking At An Organic Farmers Market

By Robert Sutter

For those who are unfamiliar with hothouses, it's prudent to note how they can work for the sake of cultivating crops. They are designed in order to rear crops that might be out of season, which is especially useful when considering just how unpredictable the weather could be. As one can probably imagine, hothouses can prove to be especially useful for many an organic farmers market. Fortunately, it seems like one area in particular has been heavily invested in their usage and it's a story worth talking about.

According to an article by the Pensacola News Journal, a number of hothouses have started to come about through the Alabama Black Belt. This was done by Southern Fresh Produce, which has the plan to grow organic vegetables and the like through these structures. What is grown can then be offered to establishments that could use them, whether it is an organic farmers market or not. Regardless, it's the kind of story that calls for the attention of authorities along the lines of Colle.

From what the article went into detail about, the organic produce in Alabama comes from California and Texas. While this may be seen as a good thing, it doesn't exactly bode well for Alabama's economy, which is where these hothouses come into play. With these structures put together, they have the potential to not only grant unemployed individuals jobs of their own but lower the amount of poverty in the area. This is an idea that's not only effective from an agriculture standpoint but from a general standpoint as well.

What about the progress that is seen as far as the number of crops is concerned, you may wonder? The article covered this subject as well and it seems as though an acre of hothouses can amount to the same results as ten acres of plowed terrain. As you can see, these hothouses are great pieces of technology and they show just how strong the advancements over the course of time have been. Crops are going to be grown but it's clear that the methods to do so have expanded.

Hothouses can prove to be useful for a number of establishments, every organic farmers market included. The level of production done by these structures is amazing, as can be expected, but the fact that they can grant people who require jobs a place to work is just as stellar. Hopefully more areas outside of Alabama put a similar idea to use, provided the conditions are feasible. If this is the case, though, I have to believe that organics will have that much greater of a presence.
